I used gmail. Is there an easy way to make sure their email's dont get spammed? I tried MaxBulk mailer, but it didn't seem to agree with my verizon dsl set up. Any ideas?

I am sending a mass email. How do I prevent them from getting spammed?

I recommend you to read the following post: How do I stop my emails being marked as spam? and as explained send a message to Mail Tester in order to find out how your message rates.
