I spent too long today trying to establish how the "unsubscribe" tag worked in conjunction with lists. In the end I sent a support email, which is the very best way to make things start working! The reason I had had so much difficulty was that the server was not communicating with MaxbulkMailer. I could access it and see the lists using server lm.php in the url - <domain.com>/lm/lm.php but Maxbulk returned an error #406 which seems to be caused by virtual firewall software on some hosting servers. Once I had moved the mlm installation to another server I got the magic message from the server offering to merge the unsubscribes into the list. Solved.
