Preview does not match email

In preview i see "hey ron,"

where
[greeting] = hey
[contact name] = ron
[last name] = no data

In the email i see " [greeting] [contact name] [last name]

the problem is resolved. i don't know how but it is. i copied and pasted the html code several times tweaking this at that and the original should have worked.
