Odd characters despite proper encoding

Hi everybody,

I use MBM 5.8-French, with Mac OS 10.5.8.
I am faced with a problem of characters.
Though writing in HTML language with regular coding for specific character , such as ’ for ' or “ for quote, though using the CHARSET=iso-8859-1 instruction, the final message displayed on PCs show odd characters or signs, such as squares or black squares, and so on.
Do you have any idea as where this comes from and how to solve ?
thanks

What software are you using the design your message, Adobe Dreamweaver? I ask that because code are generated and inserted automatically depending on the selected encoding.

Hello,

At the very beginning, I used AppleWorks (from standart text converted into HTML).
Now I type myself directy, using these codes such as “ or é.
The headers were :
<META NAME=GENERATOR CONTENT="AppleWorks HTML Filter 6.0">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="html;CHARSET=macintosh">

Then I changed CHARSET=macintosh for CHARSET=iso-8859-1
It did not seem to be successful…

Regards

You can't do that, those charsets are completely different.

Anyway MaxBulk Mailer has absolutely nothing to do with the HTML you write since it will send it as is, there is no processing of the code, where you write 'a' MaxBulk Mailer will send a 'a'. All you have to make sure however is that the charset you declare in the HTML code is the same you have selected for the document.
