Message received as already read

With MaxBulk Mailer 8.4.9 (OS X 10.9.5, Mail 7.3), suddenly when I include my own email address in a Recipients list, I receive the message marked as read. (The message containing the MaxBulk Mailer Delivery Report is marked as unread, as usual.)

I have tried sending to different email addresses of mine at different domains and have also tried sending messages that I have previously sent but get the same result.

I am concerned that other recipients will also receive their messages as already read.

Please advise--

Thank you,

David

P.S. Update: The problem occurs only when a message has an attachment.

I guess it is something that is going wrong in that application, a rule perhaps? Using IMAP?

I don't think it's a rule--the message is landing in my Inbox as usual, with no rule applied. I am using POP, not IMAP.

I don't think I have made any changes that might affect this. Could it be something in the latest MaxBulk Mailer update?

Thank you,

David

The SMTP protocol has no way to mark an e-mail as read. Read status doesn't exist. An e-mail is delivered, stored by the application and displayed to you. The software is in charge of tracking what you read, delete, flag, archive...etc... Read status is a local property.

Yes--what I meant was whether something in the way the latest MaxProg update formats messages that could cause Mail to mistakenly mark a message read? I don't know what other changes in my system could cause this suddenly to happen. Maybe you could suggest?

By the way, I have sent test messages to other people and it seems that I am the only one this is happening to.

Thank you,

David

That doesn't exist and can't be done, you can't close a door nor startup a car with MaxBulk Mailer either... stupid examples right, same for marking a message as read, you can't do that with a mailer. The mark is an internal property for the client software. Only a user can mark a mail as read, by reading it or thru a rule.

Yes--I understand that it is Mail, not MaxBulk Mailer that is marking the message as read.

My question is why it is suddenly marking only messages with attachments from MaxBulk Mailer. (I don't have any rules to mark a message as read, and in any event haven't changed any rules for months.)

Thank you,

David
