importing French from a text file

Hello there

I have question re importing French from a text file.

We are an educational company in Canada and we have many French subscribers.

The problem is that letters with accents, etc. will not import properly from our database into MBM

Pls see example below:

(address in text file)

C.F.E.R. Des Chênes 5960 boul. St-Joseph Drummondville QC J2A 3W9

(what gets imported in MBM - the ê in Chênes is missing completly)

C.F.E.R. Des Ch nes 5960 boul. St-Joseph Drummondville QC J2A 3W9

What to do?

The import window has an encoding pull-down menu and a preview. Select a record with accentuation and modify the encoding until you get the correct accentuation.

HI Stan

I have been trying this for the past hour or so and it does not seem to be working.

The imported data looks good via preview, (C.F.E.R. Des Chênes), but in MBM the ê is missing so it says C.F.E.R. Des Ch nes

What to do?

Eric

HI Stan

The only one that show up properly is NONE

C.F.E.R. Des Chênes

All others show Ch nes (or worse)

Hum... this is an encoding problem. If you select none and the file in for example in UTF-8 all the accentuated characters will disappear. Did you really try UTF-8?

Hi again Stan

This is worse: This is the text in the import file:

C.F.E.R. Des Chênes 5960 boul. St-Joseph Drummondville QC J2A 3W9

(what gets imported in MBM - all letters after Ch missing)

C.F.E.R. Des Ch 5960 boul. St-Joseph Drummondville QC J2A 3W9

eg. Des Chênes becomes Des Ch

What to do?
