show up as HTML code in MBM rather than as a link. All the rest of the HTML in the emails works correctly. Any ideas what's wrong here ?

I would say this code is wrong, I have never seen this before. You don't use standard link tags at all. What is 'dewplayer'? Emails are not web pages, there are lots of things you can't do, one is displaying movies.
