Hidden characters in web page

I create a newsletter as a web page which MaxBulk sends as an email.

The problem I'm seeing is that hidden characters are appearing in the email. Here is an example:
Advertisers and vendors last year saw a marked increase in business when advertising with us. Contact us for details.

See them surround the word "contact?"

These, and others, appear in many instances before and after special characters or simply in the middle of words for no apparent reason..

Does anyone have any idea where these characters are coming from? I tried changing fonts but it made no difference.

No, it was typed directly when I created the page. I have seen this happen in the past with documents people sent me from WORD but I know to run it through into plain text and remove all smart quotes. These characters appear for the oddest reasons and in the strangest places.

Then I don't know why you have this problem, perhaps a damaged type font?
