Does MaxBulk Mailer support Traditional Chinese characters?

I'm a licensed user of MaxBulk Mailer in Hong Kong, where the official languages are English and Chinese.

When trying to use MaxBulk Mailer to send out bulk emails in both English and Chinese, I found all the Chinese characters will be changed to strange codes.

Shall I abandon the software altogether? Or does anyone know if MaxBulk Mailer does support the Chinese characters?

Any experience sharing will be very much appreciated!

Yes, MaxBulk Mailer supports all kind of languages, including chinese. You must have to use the right encoding for your message. What encoding are you using right now?

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I'm a computer idiot and am not exactly sure what encoding I am using. But for what I know, the most common character "encoding" for viewing traditional Chinese characters is "Big 5".

Where can I change/check the "encoding" that I'm using with MaxBulk Mailer? Fyi, I'm using a MacBook if that may help you help me find a clue...

I look very much forward to your advice as I need to send something out in both English and Chinese hopefully with the help of MaxBulk Mailer if this problem can be sorted out asap.

THANKS!!!!!!!!

The encoding can be set for a message from the 'Message' panel, below the message format pull-down menu. It can be set for all messages from the preferences.

Hi! I tried with much excitement, and chose "Big5 Chinese Traditional" in Preferences as text coding (under styled text), but still, the result is the same.

I've attached a screenshot of my encoding selection in preferences for you to help take a look if you would have the time:

In case you can't see it, please check it out on my flickr:

Your screenshot is too tiny, I can't see anything.

Have you tried the other Chinese Traditional choices? And UTF-8?

Hi stanbusk,

It's been a while, but still, the problem with the Chinese characters coding hasn't yet been resolved...

I've tried Big5 Chinese Traditional and UTF-8, but they don't seem to be working.

When I select a Text Encoding system in "Preferences", do I have to adjust anything under "Format" on its left too? Somehow, I know that some Chinese characters may not be displaying properly except as HTML or styled Text.

Besides, within the email itself, there's another "Encoding" pull-down menu on the right (please refer to the screenshot as below) with "Base64" being the default one. I was wondering if I have to do anything with this in relation to the Chinese characters.

I can't wait to hear back from you again.

THANKS A LOT!

The encoding setting is the document is for the current document. The encoding setting in the preferences is for all future documents, current opened documents not included. So in your case, if you want to set the encoding of the current document, use the document encoding setting.

Thanks for the clarification. Would you have any recommendations regarding the option under "encoding" in the document setting then for the Chinese characters? If the option chosen doesn't match with the encoding under preferences, would that be a problem?

That setting is for the document and it overwrites the preference setting. The setting however depends on the type of chinese you are using, traditional or simplified.

Re: Does MaxBulk Mailer support Traditional Chinese characte

For traditional chinese you should be using 'big5' and if you are sending HTML, the encoding set in the HTML headers has to match the one you select.

Re: Does MaxBulk Mailer support Traditional Chinese characte

I would like to send HTML emails that have both English and Chinese text inside. How would I go about doing this?

You said "the encoding set in the HTML headers has to match the one you select."

What does this mean?

Re: Does MaxBulk Mailer support Traditional Chinese characte

Your HTML code has a <head> </head> part. Inside you should have a line like:
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=xxxxxxxxxxxx" />

xxxxxxxxxxxx has to match the encoding you have selected for the document.

Re: Does MaxBulk Mailer support Traditional Chinese characte

thanks for the reply. Is there an encoding that I can use to have both Chinese and English Characters in the same document?

I know I can select chinese and english separately but is there a way to have both work?
