"Connection dropped by server"

Hi Stan,

This is something new to me. Every time I try to send anything out using MBM 8.4.4 I get "Connection dropped by server" immediately.
I've checked my settings. I am using Ameritech as my outgoing mail server. Settings in MBM=

SMTP host: smtp.att.yahoo.com - SSL v2

Authentication: ESMTP - Login

My acct ID and password (checked those)

Though there are not many combinations to try, I think I've tried them all.

I will tell you, that at one point I was able to get a batch of 8 mails through (including one to myself that was delivered)

Is this something you have heard of? Does Ameritech somehow have a block on my MBM mailings.

My regular Mac OS 10.8.4 mail program sends out mail with no problem.

What do you think. Let me know if you have any ???? for me.

Thanks as always.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for your response.

I forgot to mention a few things, not sure if it matters.

1) This problem happens on previously created MBM files as well as new.
2) I did restart computer, etc. Computer hard-wired into modem
3) Not sure the AT&T modem I got for my UVerrse HS internet has some weird firewall for outgoing mail???? There are user changable settings, but not sure if I want to go there unless you think that's something.

Today I just decided to create a new file from the File>New menu and just use the default settings for that.

What I found is that in the settings of the NEW test file, the default had SSL DEACTIVATED.

After filing out the other settings based on my previous emails, I clicked send. Then there was "Looking for smtp.att.yahoo.com..." After about a minute wait, the mail was successfully sent and received.

I did not get the connection dropped message either.

I believe this has something to do with the SSL??? Or the "Port" as you will see in my log:

Ok. But is that a MBM setting? If so where do I change that setting, or is it a system mail thing? Your help appreciated on how to change.

Finally, any idea on why I suddenly need 587? Ameritech thing?
