Assets, Calculator and else - Ideas for new features

Hi, would it be possible to suggest some new features?

1) a date for an asset as start date: i.e. I buy a new car and want to register it, but then it will show in the graphics and everywhere since the beginning, while it should start only at a specific date.

2) Still on assets, a future Asset (maybe linked t othe above one) flag could be interesting. Like I have a fund that will give me a bonus after xx years of keeping it... I don't want to see it now in my B/S but would like to know is there after that date. I could use scheduler, but this is a contingent asset actually, not sure I will have it... there should be like a flag to mark an asset as "to be included only after xx-xx-xxxx". Also interesting for Liabilities, eventually... both of the first 2 comments.

3) Moreover, an expiry-warning date on a transaction would be useful. All transactions in scheduler or not should have a date and a leeway set (by default in the setup, like "Warn x days before this date") but changeable to all transactions) at which a warning appears when opening the program. It is useful i.e. for tax decalarations :) to pay the last day....

4) Also, a simple calc button attached to the numeric field would help a lot entering data in some cases...

5) Another feature would be a realignment of accounts. Sometimes it happens (it happens to me at least) that the bank statement and the data in the account (typically bank) are not in sync (i know i should use the concile flag, i will start) and then you have to adjust the initial balance in the account setup. To fix this you have to make a calculation between what you have in the program, what is in bank statement and then put a new initial value to match all the transactions and the bank value... a button that says "set initial value to match xxxxx in bank" woul be great...

6) as bugs, I find many duplicated payee everytime... I mix entering them manually and sometimes selecting from the prefetched text in the dropbox... maybe is this...

7) another bug-strange thing is the fact that scrolling in the list of transactions is disabled soemtimes if changing tabs... you need to use the arrows/sliders then it start working again, clicking on the list is not enough.

8 ) When running a query in the tab and double clicking on a record to modify it then lose the focus on the query tab's selected records when back to it... so i have to scroll back and search the record again. It should keep the focus on the last (or previous or close by) record i was looking at before double clicking on it. It happens the same on the dropdown lists... once you open and try to scroll them with the mouse wheel, it actually scroll the data in the background...

9) A simple CTRL+F with a global search on the term entered in the box appearing would be great. Search on transactions, obviously.

Thanks !!! lots of ideas, I hope you can manage to understand and agree...

1) a date for an asset as start date: i.e. I buy a new car and want to register it, but then it will show in the graphics and everywhere since the beginning, while it should start only at a specific date.
That can be done with the scheduler. The scheduler lets you program transactions to be added on a given day. Please correct me if I am wrong or whether I am misunderstood your request.
2) Still on assets, a future Asset (maybe linked t othe above one) flag could be interesting. Like I have a fund that will give me a bonus after xx years of keeping it... I don't want to see it now in my B/S but would like to know is there after that date. If that can't be done with the scheduler, how do think it could? Do you want for example the possibility to deactivate transactions? and perhaps a way to reactivate them either manually or on a given date? iCash is prepared to allow transaction deactivation actually. It would be done thru the contextual menu. A deactivated transaction would appear grayed. It could stay forever in the transaction table with no effect.
3) Moreover, an expiry-warning date on a transaction would be useful. All transactions in scheduler or not should have a date and a leeway set (by default in the setup, like "Warn x days before this date") but changeable to all transactions) at which a warning appears when opening the program. It is useful i.e. for tax decalarations to pay the last day....
I could add that to scheduled transactions or deactivated transactions with an auto-activation date (above) but I don't see how/why I could/should add that to regular transactions. At startup iCash run the scheduler. I could display the list of scheduled transactions set with such warning.
4) Also, a simple calc button attached to the numeric field would help a lot entering data in some cases...
There is a calculator linked to the transaction amount field. Type a number then an operator and you will get it displayed. Is it what you are looking for?
5) Another feature would be a realignment of accounts. Sometimes it happens (it happens to me at least) that the bank statement and the data in the account (typically bank) are not in sync (i know i should use the concile flag, i will start) and then you have to adjust the initial balance in the account setup. To fix this you have to make a calculation between what you have in the program, what is in bank statement and then put a new initial value to match all the transactions and the bank value... a button that says "set initial value to match xxxxx in bank" woul be great...
There is a project to add a better Account Reconciliation system. That system uses the account statement date. Not sure if it is what you are looking for.
6) as bugs, I find many duplicated payee everytime... I mix entering them manually and sometimes selecting from the prefetched text in the dropbox... maybe is this...
This will be fixed in next update. In the meantime when that happens you can merge those duplicates from the Payee manager.
7) another bug-strange thing is the fact that scrolling in the list of transactions is disabled soemtimes if changing tabs... you need to use the arrows/sliders then it start working again, clicking on the list is not enough.
This is a known problems. That will be fixed in next versions.
I will look at that.
9) A simple CTRL+F with a global search on the term entered in the box appearing would be great. Search on transactions, obviously
This is similar to clicking on box labels. Have you tried?

Stan, first of all thanks for the time spent answering and the great job you guys are doing...
Then, let's go to the stuff...

1) and 2) I tried playing again with this and I see I wasn't clear, since it has to do with Charts. The idea would be to have a start date NOT VALID BEFORE for Assets or Liabilities entries. Otherwise they will show up always in the graphs and also there is no way to identify when the asse/liability was first entered in iCash. Hope I am clearer now !
[EDIT] Though, I think I use the wrong approach... I usually set the Account start value instead of using a transaction to add a avlue to the Account... I will try and I think this is the right approach... Anyhow, the Chart issue remains with my "wrong" approach...

3) Yes, having the warning message (with the leeway decided at setup) popping up at startup would be great. And yes, limited to scheduled transactions should cover it. An integration in Outlook or Gmail calendars would be a big benefit :)

4) Ok, found

5) I'll wait eagerly...

6) Already merging, happy to know is going to be fixed

7) As above

8) Thanks

9) Yes, I know the box click thing, but what I am referring is an always available CTRL+F, like in many Windows software that opens a box where you can look for a term in the DB. In this case I'd limit it to the transactions tables, no other filters like date or accounts, just a pure text search if, e.g. I forgot how I registered something and when and wanted to find that out... a bit hard I suppose.

In general, really a nice piece of software your iCash, indeed!

Cheers
