Reports Date column will not print in full

As a new user I am having trouble printing reports in full. Despite trying portrait and landscape and the report showing in full on the screen when printed the date of the transaction is limited to four characters and columns two and three are also curtailed but this is less important.
can I change the size of column one to show the date in five characters including the slash or can I change the font size.
Tax return time looms in the Uk so an early solution would be appreciated
