I've tried five different SMTP including gmail and BTConnect.

Try to use ESMTP from the authentication rather than POP. You can change that from the settings panel, where it says 'Authentication'.

Thanks, I have tried that and used my email account username and password - still none of the accounts work.

Any more clues?

You get a '530 Access denied' error. That means your User ID is wrong, your password is wrong or both are wrong.

I used my login details that I use to access the broadband - do I need an email username and password? I'm sharing a friend's BT Broadband wirelessly - I don't have his email login.

I have a Googlemail account - can I use that username and password?

Is there a way I can use Max Bulk Mailer without having to use a username and password?

You need the server credentials in order to be granted to send messages. Check if there isn't any errors with the data, I mean, given servers use the full email address as the user ID, others only the text before the '@' character.

Google settings are listed here

No, you can't send a message thru a server without authenticating first.
