Installation error

Hi - I get the following error when I install MLM:

The installation has been completed with an error while setting permissions.
CHMOD /lm 777
CHMOD /lm 775
CHMOD /lm 755
CHMOD /lm 705

Has anyone any idea what I should do?

Hi - I bought MaxBulk mail because of the ability to track mail shots using MLM.
I posted a question here requesting support because of an error in installing MLM 10 days ago, and I'm disappointed that I have not yet received a reply.
The instructions say this forum is the fastest way to get support, but it does not seem to be very fast to me.
Also, I can't see how to use the even slower option of submitting a support ticket.
Please help.

Have you asked your server support about why you can't change the lm folder permissions.

We were closed two weeks in august for holidays.

Hi Stanbusk - thanks for getting back to me, and apologies for grumbling when you were away. We all have to have holidays!
Can you tell me what the permissions on the LM folder ought to be? Or should the be the values in the error message?

The MaxBulk Mailer built-in installer try to set the ‘lm’ folder privileges/permissions to 777, if it fails it will then try 775, 755 and 705. It is what you see in the installation log. 777 uses to work with most servers but not all. If the installer failed to set the permissions (your case), try to CHMOD the ‘lm’ folder to 777 manually. If it fails CHMOD the ‘lm’ folder to 775. If it still fails CHMOD the ‘lm’ folder to 755. If it still fails then CHMOD the ‘lm’ folder to 705. You can CHMOD a folder with your FTP software. For example with FTP Disk connect to your server, select the ‘lm’ folder and either click on the ‘Get Info’ menu or use the Cmd-I on Mac OS or Ctrl-I on Windows. You will get a window with the file persmissions at the bottom. Write the new number next to ‘Unix:’ and clik on ‘Apply’.

If you try to log into MLM with your browser using the lm.php URL (ex http://www.yourdomain.com/pathtomlm/lm.php) and you get an ‘Internal server Error’, that means your server doesn’t like the current permissions.

Thanks for getting back to me, and I'm sorry for the slow reply on my part - I got deeply involved in another project and couldn't get back to this one.
I've now successfully installed LML but I'm getting a server error when I try to use tracking, or past the path to lm.php into my browser.
I have set the lm folder permissions to 777.
Is there something I can do to my server setup to correct this?

Hi Stanbusk - many thanks for getting back to me. This is going to be user error, I'm afraid.

I get this when I paste the url into the browser address bar:

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I see:

That means your server doesn't like you to set the folder 'lm' access permissions to 777. Just CHMOD the 'lm' folder to 775 and try again. If it still fail CHMOD the 'lm' folder to 755. If it still fail CHMOD the 'lm' folder to 705. It should then work. You can CHMOD a folder with your FTP software.

Permissions on both lm folders and lm.php are all set to 777.

Have you asked your server support about that? It should something else I am not aware of.

Hi Stanbusk - sorry for the slow reply, I've been deep into other things.

My server support gave me this reply:

'I have checked your logs and this is the error that you are getting from the server.

[Tue Sep 24 15:39:49 2013] [error] [client 69.36.160.253] File does not exist: /home/propract/public_html/500.shtml

There seems to be an issue with the file lm.php I suggest you check it to make sure it is configured correctly.'

I've attached the lm.php file I downloaded from the site.

Can you see from this where it's going wrong?

I downloaded the latest LML folder from your website, and uploaded lm.phph to the directory on my site, but I get the same server error.
What next?
