Imap or Pop for gmail bounce handling

1. I am using gmail business account.
2. I have over 40,000 bounces
3. I want to process them with eMail Bounce Handler and delete them immediately from the server.

So far, it has been slow going...

Which is the best way to go?

- Imap? with Expunge Auto-Off / Expunge Auto-On?

or

Pop

It depends but POP uses to be faster, have you tried?
