This seems to be the only thing keeping me from succesfully sending anything.

I am using a hotmail account if that is any help.

Thanks.

k that got me farther along, now it is at least trying to send stuff. However, I keep getting this error that says:

"Your message has not been delivered to all intended recipients since one or more connections were unexpectadly closed by your mail server."

Anyone know what's going on with that?

Thanks in advance.

What error do you get? You can find out looking at the connection log. They use to be lines starting with a 5xx error (503 for example).

"Sending unsolicited commercial or bulk e-mail to Microsoft's computer network is prohibited."

Remote server has unexpectedly closed the connection (#102).

I am trying to send stuff to 404 people on an artist mailing list that I just took over, but I guess because of the numer of e-mails Microsoft thinks it's spam. Is there any way to get around that or do I have to get a new address to send through?

That is a default 'Welcome" message. Almost all servers welcome you that way. This is not an error. It is explained here Could a server detect I am using Maxbulk Mailer?.

You have to look for a 5xx error like 503. Please let me know.

I have tried with Telnet, Hotmail as no POP server listening at mail.hotmail.com on port 110. However hotmail offers support for ESMTP authentication:

telnet mail.hotmail.com 25
Trying 65.54.244.8...
Connected to mail.hotmail.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

'250-AUTH LOGIN' , means ESMTP - Login authentication.

So in the SMTP host section I put in "telnet mail.hotmail.com 25 "

and change the Authentication to ESMTP, leave it as login, and use my hotmail address and password?

Sorry I'm a big noob at this still.

No. Telnet is a Unix tool to connect to services and troubleshoot parameters. I think you are using the wrong ID and/or password. I don't see any other explanation.

Under SMTP Server Access, should I be using SSL v2? Or should it be set to deactivated?

I don't think hotmail uses SSL. Try to use 'gaacnews' as you user id rather than 'gaacnews@hotmail.com'.
