I have a large list where some emails do not have either first or last name. If I use Dear (name), How do I avoid the Dear with a blank next to it when there is no name?

Use a conditional statement. It is something like:

<IF [[Firstname]] = "">Dear customer,<ELSE>Dear [Firstname],</IF>
