Can't connect to mySQL db

When I try and connect to my table with the emails i get this errors from max pro bulk mailer

can't connect to mysql server on mysql-3.hostname.com' (10060)

I'm using port 3303 as the help files suggest

Error #10060 is a mySQL server timeout. Are you sure your server or database is set to allow external connections?

Thanks for that. That has got me thinking, would any host allow externall connections to a db? Security reasons?

As far as I know some servers don't allow external connections by default. You can change that from your web site control panel.
