When I create a new empty(!) iCash document, the size is about 19.6 MB. I use version 3.4. The current document I use (with 4000+ transactions) is round 3.5 MB in size.

What is the reason for this difference?

Is this the explanation for the bad performance with my current document (very slow)?

Try to compress the two documents. You will get similar sizes. All comes from indexes and allocation size. If your old document is slow try to rebuild that index.
